Dr. Todd Fincher, DDS

Sedation Dentistry

Profound Local Anesthesia. In an effort to reduce or completely eliminate the "feel" of the shot, Dr. Fincher uses a two step anesthesia approach. A high strength topical anesthetic is placed on the gums for one to two minutes. Next, a small dose of local anesthetic is placed in this exact spot. This is left for one to two minutes, and the rest of the local anesthetic is administered. The VAST majority of patients respond that they felt none of the anesthesia.

N2O (Laughing Gas). In order to increase patient comfort, we can administer nitrous oxide. Commonly called laughing gas, nitrous oxide calms patients, while leaving them fully conscious. It has an amnesic effect, which means patients usually do not remember portions of the procedure.

IV Sedation. IV Sedation allows patients to enter a sleep-like state throughout their dental procedure. The drug used for IV Sedation is an anti-anxiety sedative which makes the patient feel sleepy and relaxed while producing almost total amnesia. So, when the treatment is finished, the patient will not remember much, if any, of the procedure. The IV sedation is administered by Dr. Todd Fincher, who is DOCS certified and Bill Red, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
